Campaign of the Month: January 2012
Star Trek Late Night
With the discovery of the crystalline substance known as Psychosis, the entire thought process regarding espers has changed. The crystal causes massive mutation to occur in anyone handling the substance – this mutation can manifest physically or mentally. The mutation occurs within one week of handling the crystal.
In the case of physical metamorphisis, the subject will gain +1d/2 to Fitness and to Coordination. He will also gain the traits Ageless and either Olympian Physique or Whipcord Reflexes. No other change will occur for some years. If at any point the character is injured to the edge of death (any damage into the Near Death life row), the character must make a Difficulty 7 Fitness+Vitality test or the character dies. The body of the character becomes afflicted with what appears to be a grusome flesh-eating disease. He will suffer 1 point of damage per minute until all that is left is a pile of mush on the floor. About 70% of people who use psychosis suffer this mutation.
If Espergenesis occurs, the character gains +1d/2 to Psi and gains +1d skill levels into Psi-based skills. He also gains the Chronic Pain trait, as his head feels like it is going to explode. He gains the traits Ageless and Trained Intellect as well. These beings are completely in tune with their new powers. As the character learns to control his new-found abilities, he may buy off the Chronic Pain.
Starfleet Intelligence and FIPA have rated this substance as a Class 1 Biohazard, and is therefore outlawed on all Federation planets. Possession of Psychosis holds a mandatory life sentence in a penal colony. Any who have been transformed by the substance are remanded to Val’tudor on Vulcan for study for an indefinate period.
In species that do not normally manifest psionics, the Psychosis crystal almost always forces Espergenesis to occur. As such, the Ferengi Alliance has made it known that they will pay top prices for the substance – regardless of Federation law.
