Campaign of the Month: January 2012
Star Trek Late Night
There are two races known as Martians. The first race died out in the late 20th century after becoming exposed to the Varisillum Virus following their invasion of Earth.
The second race, known as The Ice Warriors, are reptilian humanoids, their scaly skin and features usually hidden under heavy armor. They have large, claw-like hands and their voices are usually a highly sibilant whisper when in atmospheres like that of Earth’s. They prefer cold climates and can be killed by extreme heat.
The are two classes of Ice Warriors, the rank-and-file Warriors, and an officer class, which are often referred to as Ice Lords. The main difference between the two is the design of their armor, with the Ice Lords wearing a lighter, more flexible version than those of the Warriors.
Ice Warriors have a strong sense of honor. They also believe that in the case of a violent death, the victim will not rest in peace until the murderer has atoned for it.
In 1907 the Ice Warriors, more properly called the Maratanni, left Mars in generation ships following a 200 year war. They settle on Nimbus 3 which they named Marza. The name Ice Warrior is not the name of their species, but was applied to them by an Earth scientific team. Earth has had a rocky relationship with the Ice Warriors ever since hostile contact was accidentally made by the Enterprise in 2290. In 2387 the Ice Warriors chose to join the UFP.
Much of the Ice Warrior’s early history/culture was defined by clans. Their society is made up of seven clans and each of these clans have strong rivalry. They often raid each other kidnapping females of the species which they ransom back to the clan stolen from. If the clan refuses the ransom, the female is married to a young warrior. Because of their honed combat skills, Ice Warriors often serve in the Starfleet Marine Corps.
