Kylee's Personal Log - Episode 8

While sitting here in the infirmary trying to recover from these injuries, I can’t help but watch Cate working. She is amazingly creepy. She treats those Tribbles like they are nothing more than chemicals to be mixed. Still I find some of her creations quite interesting. I think I will ask her if I can have the pink and black striped Tribble for a pet. I have been helping her care for the baby thingy. I call it a thingy because I don’t know what else to call it. Combining the DNA of a wookie and a Tribble seems insane and yet she managed to create what appears to be a viable life form. A’lana and the other girls have all been hanging out in the infirmary alot just so they can play with the baby. I find it strange that I am the only free female on this ship.

We chose to name the baby, Simba. Apparently on A’Lana’s home world, Simba was a great warrior who threw off the chains of slavery and destroyed his oppressors. I guess it is as good a name as any but maybe we shouldn’t tell Tarak of its origins. Simba is growing fast. She is now off the bottle and learning basic skills like mathematics, reading, and general hand eye coordination. I suggested to Cate that we start running her through simulations of sports on the holodeck. All kids need to learn some sports. I think that Simba is growing faster than anyone expected and it is kind of scary.

Cate tells me I should be back to my duties in a day or so but I still hurt pretty bad from that Pah Wraith. Jacen calls them Darkside Wraiths but we on Bajor know them for their true names. I hope never to face one again. I guess I should get some rest now.
